A book giveaway

Something to smile about… My paperback version of A Factory Affair has arrived, and to celebrate, I’m doing a giveaway. All you have to do if you want to be in the draw is put a comment on the blog. Then Alan will draw a name from the hat on February 19th.

Denise wasn’t looking for love when she knocked on the door at the Hat Factory.

Having recently lost her parents in a boating accident, when Denise Gambon knocks on the door at the local Hat Factory, looking for work, she finds more than she bargained for.

Mean and moody, Craig Spencer isn’t one to fall head over heels, any more than Denise is. Can they avoid the instant attraction and work together; or will sparks fly and then fizzle out to nothing?

You’ll have to read it to find out.

Gran gets a make over

Find my latest blog post here.

Hello to all my lovely followers, hope you’re all well.

Remember I was going for the granny grey look. Well sadly she’s moved away, and Mrs Brown is back in town.

FullSizeRender

Our lovely daughter paid a visit today, and she’s now selling make up. That’s how I come to have blended brown eye shadows, ladylike (mmm?) lipstick, that’s the name of it, and special lashes that are made up of gel and then fibres. The brand in question, (I’ll put a link when she’s up and running) also do a brows kit that’s a gel and fibres to keep your eyebrows looking neat all day.

Now that’s enough about me and make up, here’s Sohpie Suzy having fun…

She’s a little cuddle bunch isn’t she?

On the writing front, one of my stories is on the Editor’s choice list of Alfie dog.

You can download it for your kindle here for only 25p instead of the usual, 39p. Enjoy it if you read it. About a mother in law, and you have to read the full story to understand the little lady. We love them don’t we?

Have a great week whatever you’re doing.

Something to make you smile

Hello to all my lovely blog followers. I’ve been a bit skinny on here lately. Not skinny as in super slim. I’ve been to the gym most days though, and me and my gym buddy get each other to do more working out than we would if we went on our own. We do sit ups on one of those bouncy balls.gym-ballLeaning back to look at the wall, then sitting up.

Lift ups on the monkey bars, then I go on this thing like an upside down spaceship. One of these… only turned upside down, then I balance on it. Most of the time.

balance ballHello to all my new followers in America. Hope you’re enjoying the blog. I’m busy re-writing something special for someone special. Can’t say more than that at the moment incase I jinx it. I usually talk about writing more than getting on with the writing, so I’ll let you know soon.

Here’s something funny that happened yesterday. Being of a certain age, me and hubby take a vitamin tablet. You’ve heard of wellwoman and wellman. Those. I had two boxes in my hand, and for some reason, my eyes, saw him with the woman box and me with the man one. He had a tablet on his lips about to swallow it – I had as well. With the awful thought of him swallowing a woman one and me the man one, I did what came to mind and yelled out, ‘Stop!’ Turns out he was taking the right one, and I was as well. Good job he did stop to check, so if they had been the wrong ones, we’d have been alright.

Happy Easter to everyone, and thinking of our friends in Brussels.

Peace

Writing week

I’m having a good writing week with a new Alfie dog story out, Martha knows best, and a letter in Writing magazine, and a piece on the lovely Lynne Hackles page, Random inspiration people. Thanks, Lynne for buying my book as well. Also Redington is now available in a book shop in Walsall, if you live anywhere near there.

WP_20150826_002This picture is to remind us that summer isn’t far away, time to make plans for what colours and flowers you’re having this year. I’m definitely going to get some purple petunias for tubs and baskets. Sweet peas are another favourite of mine and a flower every garden should have as they can easily be grown in tubs. They’re worth having for that delicate smell that’s better than any air freshner.

The job on the building site has come to an end now and the sparkly new site is complete. I’m having a bit of a break, and then something lovely will turn up. As one door closes another one opens, and I know that’s a cliche, but what I believe.

Now time to get a cup of tea on and go to watch the voice. Whatever you’re creating this week, have fun.

Something Regal

We had a lovely time at Blenheim Palace yesterday.

WP_20160305_14_11_16_ProWP_20160305_14_10_54_ProWP_20160305_11_53_55_ProWP_20160305_13_40_06_Pro

It’s well worth a visit if you haven’t been there before, and we learned a lot from the knowledgeable tour guide. Then we had a wander around the garden. A couple of helicopters were circling the Palace, then landed in the garden. A trio emerged and ran into the private section of the house. An hour later, the helicopters left, heading towards London. Just popped in for a cup of tea no doubt. Talking about tea, I’m off to have one now.

Here’s me and my lovely Mom having a cuppa today.

Now I’m going to exchange the day pass for a free yearly one. I asked the ticket man if there was a catch. He laughed, and said, ‘No.’ So next time it will be warmer and we can take the little train and have a tour of the Capability Brown Gardens as well.

I’ve started reading the first in the Game of Thrones, A song of ice and fire. Not sure if I’ll get to the end of it, but enjoying it so far.

Have a great week.

A jog with a view

I’ve been going to the gym most days over the last week. On Thursday, me and my gym buddy got to the reception. I’d love to blog about what happened next, but on a scale of 1 – 10 it comes around about 9 and a half, so I have to send it off to my favorite laughter pages of That’s Life. They seem to like my funnies and have printed quite a few so far and are always asking me for more. Seeing as they pay well, must give it a chance. He spent the next five minutes texting everyone to tell them about it. I couldn’t exercise for laughing either for quite a while.

His brother was one of the text recipients, and he happened to be going for a run on the same morning; outdoors around Torbay where he lives. This is the picture he sent me of early morning sun shining over my little Brixham bay.

The picture on the right was taken last September, looking across to where he took this one from.

It’s been a cold but fresh day here today, so I’ve been chopping up the wood from our old shed that’s been stored in the greenhouse. Now we’ve got tons of firesticks, and the greenhouse is a bit clearer than it was. Next I’m going to make a base for a half shed so that we can clear out the shed that’s so full you can’t get in it. And, we have a bathroom booked. It’ll be a while before the busy plumber can come and sort it all out, but it will be done some time before the summer. And I’ve made up two spring baskets. It was so chilly at tea time though, they’re in the greenhouse with the sticks until it warms up a bit.

Now I’m off for a cup of tea and to watch the voice. And I forgot to mention that I got head hunted the other day. I was about to start cleaning in one of the cabin offices at the building site when a man approached. I said, “Did  you want Ray, or Jim?”

He said, “Neither of them, you.” Oh, I had a quick think as to what I might have done wrong, like go the wrong way round the site, or not wearing my hard hat. Then he handed me a card and told me he needed good workers as he’s the director of a cleaning company. I started saying, “Oh, yes, I do this that and the other.”

He said, “I know, I’ve seen you.” Wonder if that was when I slopped water up my jeans, or did a twirl with the mop. Either way, I’ll keep the number handy.

Have a great rest of the weekend, and a good week ahead.

Knitting and a tea party

Sophie 1st BirthdaySophie & taidSophie's birthdaySophie in pink

We’re quite a family of knitters, so when a little girl is having a birthday, she ended up with a peach cardigan from great-grandma, and a pink one from Gran, and a knitted mouse from Aunty. She looks quite happy with things and likes tuna sandwiches and salad, and cake of course.

And it’s always good to make time for a tea party, even if we had frothy coffee instead.

Sophie & Gran

And seeing as it was a lovely day, but a bit cold, we went for a swingalong in our local park.

By Jove, I think I’ve done it.

I’ve been messing around trying to get my website and blog together on wordpress for about a week.

Now I think that http://www.susanjanejones.com is both website and blog. If you’re not on my list of blogs I follow and want to be added, please let me know.

green teaI’m off to have a cup of green tea to celebrate, even though I have lots to do to tidy it up. Don’t look too closely where I have to add widgets and things.

Looking forward to tomorrow, day off form work, and spending it with Alan. I’m knitting a bigger size of pink cardigan as well for a little birthday girl who will be one soon.

Have a great weekend, and if you’re stuck on wordpress, the live chat people are brilliant.

Going places

Hello to my blog followers and all the new ones. One in North Wales in particular, hope you enjoy the blog posts.pony on snowdon

I won a book

going places

This lovely anthology from Gill James at Bridgehouse publishing arrived in the post today. And full of many of my favourite authors. Teresa Ashby, Sally Quilford to name but two. Looking forward to reading those.

At Bridgehouse publishing, they’re looking for stories. Have a look here

Also, look at all these submission slots on Gill’s newsletter. I’ll be having a go at some of those.

As if I haven’t got enough to be doing, I’m trying to transfer my writing website to be in the same place as my blog. It’s been a bit of a headache to say the least and lots of helpful live chats. I hope it will be working soon, so if you tried to click onto my website and couldn’t, that’s why.

Fancy a good story?

I started back at the gym this week. On Wednesday morning and again this morning, I went on the rowing machine, treadmill, bike and then the cross-trainer. After that mat excercises and stretches to cool down. I’m lucky to have a personal trainer, who says, no do those planks for a bit longer, and no, not like that, like this. Next week I might swim to mix it up a bit.

gym pictureThat’s not the story. I came home to find out that I’d won Morgen Bailey’s challenge to give the words for a story prompt. What she did with the words is lovely. Exactly the kind of story I had in mind. Details are here.

You can read all three stories here… How lovely to have a prize of 5,000 words edited.

Now I’m working on chapter 3 of Another Year in Redington. Being in Norfolk, they’re talking about the whales and how tragic it is that they’ve been washed up on the coast.

Have a great weekend, and if you want to read the opening of Redington, you can find it here on Amazon.

Thanks to all who have already downloaded or bought it.
